It's Time For A Constitutional Amendment.
The Supreme Court has struck down a Louisiana law allowing for the death penalty in child rape cases. News outlets have suggested that states that want to keep these laws on the books can wait for a change in the composition of the court, and then they can present their case to the court again(hoping for a different ruling). I have a better idea. Amend the Constitution.
The US Constitution is not an all knowing document. Knowing this, the Founding Fathers allowed for changes to the core document of our democracy. With good reason, it takes an extreme majority to do this. However, child rapists are not a large percentage of the population in America.
With the extremely liberal Barak Obama saying that states should be allowed to use the death penalty if they so desire to deter this ghastly crime, I think an amendment would garner the needed support for approval. Mr. Obama is more liberal than most Democrats so if he truly believes this, passage of an amendment wouldn't be much of a stretch. I imagine that any conservative would fully support this, so we would only need to convince little more than half of the liberals.
I fear however, that Barak Obama only says this because he's hoping for Republican votes in the Presidential Election. I hope I'm wrong, and liberals don't support the rights of child rapists. We regularly put people in prison for killings that are in self-defense although the defendants are charged with manslaughter instead of murder. This is a travesty of the American Justice system. I would rather put to death a child rapist than even a pre-meditated murder as I think that the rape of a child is far more heinous than the murder of a gang member.
Personally, I would prefer that some loser murder me than a pervert destroy one of my children's mind and body with unspeakable acts.
Constitutional amendments are serious business, but if we passed an amendment allowing for the execution of child rapists(maybe when the victim is under 12 years old), and it prevents perverts from destroying the life of a single child, it would be worth it. I suggest for victims under twelve because that takes away any chance that a person could be put to death for consensual sex with a minor that lies about his/her age. If a person engages in sexual activity with someone under twelve years old, and they claim that they thought the person was of legal age maybe they should be put to death for the greater good of our gene pool(by rooting out extreme stupidity). I don't really mean that, but I fully believe that the rape of a child is a worse crime than the murder of an adult.
While I know that the vast majority of Americans would not agree with me on that statement, I believe that the vast majority would support an amendment allowing for the death penalty in cases of the rape of a child. I hope so at least.

If the goal here is to increase the number of dead children, then by all means let's pass yet another "feel good do nothing"
