The NBA MVP is a subject often debated and rarely ever agreed upon by the masses. No matter who achieves this great award every season, there is always a better candidate in someone else's mind. Well, thankfully for the sake of this article, it's my world, and my opinion is the only one that matters.
The 2008 NBA season looks to be a very intriguing; one as new players such as Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, and OJ Mayo begin taking their steps towards potential superstardom, while established veterans such as Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant set their sights on a return to the NBA Finals. Somewhere in between all of this madness is the MVP Award. Who will be deserving, and most of all, who will win it?
The candidates listed below are the top five most likely in my opinion to win it, in order of their potential for achievement.
(1) Kobe Bryant - Not often is their a repeat MVP Award winner but with the return of Andrew Bynum to the Lakers lineup, they look as though they have great potential to surpass their win total from last season, and quite possibly finish with the best record in the NBA, within the toughest conference in the NBA. Along with the wins, Bryant will post his usual fantastic numbers, and continue to help build the young players around him into a genuine supporting cast.
(2) Lebron James - This is the year where the MVP Award gets within the grasp of Lebron James. The numbers he puts up this season are going to be mind-blowing, and with the Pistons getting older, and the Magic not quite where they need to be yet, there is a chance that the Cavaliers could be the second or third best team in the East; no small achievement considering their team besides Lebron is not that talented. The award will be his one day, probably multiple times, but it's not quite his time yet. Maybe next season?
(3) Chris Paul - Anyone who has taken time out of their evenings to watch this kid play has to be impressed. It seems like everytime this kid touches the ball, something magical happens. I know that I am not the only one who confidently proclaims him to be the best point guard in the NBA, with no competition to that crown in sight. The kid does it all, from steals, assists and scoring, to just simply leading his team on and off the court. This is another player who has an MVP or two in his future but just not yet.
(4) Dwayne Wade - It seems like through his injury problems from the last season and a half that Dwayne Wade has become the odd man out in the universe
