Poetry: Night

by Melissa Bagley

Created on: June 28, 2008

Shivers of grey,
Slivers of light,
Going away in moments and moments,
Away and away into yesterday and becoming...
Now tomorrow.
We have flown away,
Moved away,
Into now and out of our day.

Starless sky,
Moon is a small thing,
Lighting a expanse of
What is.
Now, upon the horizon,
What do we see?
Is there something coming...
Coming into our dreams?

Darkness floats,
Sliding down on the land,
Floating, touching, stroking all
That it comes to touch,
Becoming a part of us,
Of you, of everything.
Whispering soft and gentle,
It is covering us in velvet softness.

You need not fear the night.
For it is part of the day,
And the sweet repose of sleep,
Will welcome you into tomorrow.
Gentle, soothing and cool,
All the sorrows of the day are washing down,
Into a place of what was and will not be again.
It is yesterday there where your worries lie sleeping.

Tomorrow we will rise,
And start it all again,
Walking in our usual paths,
The hustle, the bustle will,
Once again be ours to contain.
But now, now, in the night....
Quiet, solace and rest-
Slipping softly into where dreams are ours to grasp.
