What to do in case of haunting?

by Lynne Mcgee

If you are one of the now increasingly transient people on the planet, moving from home to home or job to job, even only a few times throughout your life, it is likely that at some point you will dwell in a home that has Spirits. I have been teaching and working with Spiritual Development for over twenty five years and during this time I have, due to my husband's previous occupation, moved into many different homes. Each residence came with it's own energy, it's own vibration, and sometimes it's own group of Spirit's or 'Ghost's' as some prefer to call them.

As a rule I have found that the majority of people use the term 'Ghost', meaning 'apparition of a dead person'(Oxford English Dictionary), to have a negative connotation, whereas the term Spirit, meaning 'a supernatural being', seems to have gained a positive connotation with the growth of the New Age movement. In reality both Ghost's and Spirit's are the same, the positive or negative meaning that we attach to them is usually based on our own perceptions of the experience we have when we see them. If we are afraid of them we usually say they are Ghosts. If we see someone like our deceased Grandparent we say they are Spirits, as we generally, even if nervous on siting them, associate a more positive feeling towards them. Of course the feeling is really a reflection of the relationship we had with them when they were alive.

So, if both Ghosts and Spirits are essentially the same thing, what constitutes a 'haunting'?
www.dictionary.reference.com gives us the following meanings.
1. inhabited or frequented by ghosts
2. preoccupied, as with an emotion, memory, or idea;
3. disturbed; distressed; worried:

If we look at these meanings we can see that firstly a place has to be frequented by a ghost, but also we have a clue as to why the ghost would be frequenting the place. Ghost's or Spirits that frequent a particular place generally are preoccupied themselves with a past emotional concern and yes, they are generally disturbed, distressed or worried themselves. The distress they have is what keeps them haunting the premises or area.

To the inhabitant of the premises the reason the ghost is there is usually of no consequence if they are afraid of them but let's get clear on this. Not all ghosts or spirit's are bad or evil or nasty in any way and if you have a happy ghost you may, once you adjust to their antics, live alongside each other quite happily. You see, we generally have two types of ghosts.

The first type is generally
