Majoring in journalism, media studies or techno culture, opens up amazing opportunities to work in places, such as Hollywood studios in the ranks of New Line Cinema and Paramount Studios. Further, you could also forward your application to the music industry: Sony BMG and Universal Music are just two of the companies that may be in line for your signature. Marketing is also a strong area where you can find the job of your dreams. Companies in the music and movie business are always thinking of innovative ways to market their new products, and someone such as yourself, with the vision and the skills, can be very successful in that niche as well.
If you are still a student, then you do have the opportunity to engage in an internship with a respectable company, in order to gain valuable workplace experience that will compliment your education, and your resume. The Internet has a number of websites that host advertisements, placed there specifically for the purpose of recruiting young people for internships.
What you want to consider first, is what kind of time you have available. The main choice is, would you prefer working during the school year, the summer, or take on a combination of both? The summer is quite possibly your best option, because there aren't the restrictions of class, assignments, and all-nighters devoted to finishing last minute essays
One you have made that choice, the next step is to determine whether you want to be paid or not. The question sounds rhetorical, but it is important to consider the experience that comes with the internship. For example, a paid job might not offer the possibility to learn the expertise an unpaid internship includes. Choosing the second will ensure that the experience you gain will be a springboard towards a higher wage once you graduate.
After considering the aforementioned questions, it is time to realize the essence of the work involved. Most internships will introduce you to the "backstage" aspect of the job. What does that mean? Well, it translates into phone calls, managing contacts and files, organizing meetings between the company and its clients, branching out to attract new potential customers in taking their business to the company, and finally, maintain the overall reputation and image of the business. Computer literacy is essential, because much of the communication and management of information will occur through the Internet and the respective applications that you will need to use.
