Is Jesus the only way of salvation? This is a question debated long and hard by Biblical and non-bilblical scholars alike. To be able to answer this, one must look at the Scriptures and see what they have to say on the matter.Since teh Scripture is the number one authority on this subject,. mit is to them we should look.
John 14:6: "Jesus saith unto them, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me".
In this verse, Jesus is not only claiming to be be the path one must travel to salvation, but clearly states that no one can be saved or pardoned by God the Father, without going through Jesus. He is the way!
In Acts 16:31, the jailer at Phillippi fell on his knees and asked Paul what he had to do in order to be saved. He recogized that God was indeed with Paul and his followers. Paul's answer was short and concise: " Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved"... The mesage here is clear: Salvation comes through belief on Jesus Christ as our only hope of salvation.
Acts 4:2: outlines what is necessary for a person to be saved. " Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby you may be saved..."
This is obvious. Jesus is the only way of salvation. Why?
Romans 3:23 states that "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God". None of us is good enough. In Isiah 53, it tells us that "all our righteousness is as filthy rags". We are not and can never be good enough to save ourselves. "For the wages of sin are death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord".
No one can meet the goal of God's perfection. No matter how good a life we lead, how many acts of kindness we perform and how much sacrifice we make it is not enough. Only God, through His perfect Son could provide a way for us to go to heaven.
John 3:16,17 says "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoeve believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life". "For God sent His son into the world ....that the world through Him might be saved".
Ephesians 4"8,9 tell us exactly how and why salvation came to us:"For by grace are ye saved, through faith. It is the gift of God not of works lest any man should boast".
Human nature being what it is, if we could do anything to obtain salvation, we would brag to each other abuot it. God has made it so that the only way we can be saved its through believing in Christ.
Many religions teach that salvation comes through works. No, works come about bwecause we are saved and want to tell others. James says that "faith without works is dead"... not that we need works to be saved.
How wonderful for God to provide a way for mankind to meet Him in heaven some day. But, as in all things, it is God's way and we must follow His teacing to obtain what He has promised. There is no other way to obtain salvation.
