When it comes to matters love, I still assert that the wisest thing people can do is to be led with their heads, as opposed to their hearts. Good old Steve found this out the hard way.

Steve was no ordinary fellow. A genius of sorts, the lad could read could read for hours on end. He was an extraordinary sportsman. His finances were in order his dad was a rich and highly successful businessman. Overall, life was kind to Steve.

However, there was this one issue that constantly weighed heavily on his mind his inability to find a female companion. The problem was that Steve was too particular as to what he wanted in a girl.

Then he met Alysse. She was what he had always wanted in a lady or so he thought. She had the curvaceous body he always fantasized about. She was funny and interesting, compassionate and understanding. She didn't possess the kind of Diva attitude' that made most man take to their heels. She was a good listener and always gave sound advice. Steve had hit the jackpot. The look on Steve's face as he told us tales of his dates with Alysse gave him away the man was smitten.

That was before Alysse's true colours came to the fore. Alysse would throw tantrums at the slightest provocation, particularly so when asked about her whereabouts. She coerced Steve, the rich and gentle man he was, to cater for her every expense, from phone bill to hair stylist. Every time her phone rang, she would excuse herself and speak in low tones. The number of minutes that Steve saw Alysse each day kept reducing. Before Steve could figure out what was going on, the late night dinners the pair had enjoyed during the rosy periods of their relationship were no more.

Steve asked us for advice. We told him to bail out of the relationship. All the signs pointed to the fact that Alysse had another lover. A disillusioned Steve would have none of it. His Alysse was only going through a phase that would cease sooner rather than later. The guy couldn't reason. His heart was what was calling the shots. How could he let go of the first lady to have shown such a keen interest in him? And risk never finding love again? He told us that he just couldn't rid himself of Alysse. He would give her time to come to her senses. He was in love' and was never going to give up on the object of his affection.

Then one day, a sobbing Steve walked into the room. He told us that he and Alysse had just broken up. On that fateful day, she had felt guilty of taking Steve for a ride for so long. She felt sorry for having played such a dirty game on so good a guy. Then the bombshell she'd been seeing someone else even before she met Steve. And to add insult to injury, she had the said man's child.

Steve felt foolish. He regretted having rubbished our advice. We told him not to be too hard on himself. Rather, he had to learn the most important lesson; that the head, and not the heart, should call the shots when it comes to love.
