Red-tailed boa care

Welcome to the jungle! The jungle of South America home to the Red Tail Boa Constrictor. This is a great reptile from the beauty and the size to the privilege of owning a piece of history! Red Tails are beautiful snakes. The colors are gorgeous silvery white with light to dark brownish red marks almost the color of mahogany! I have been a reptile enthusiast for a while and the Red tail is one of my favorites. It is also one of the most common constrictors as a pet.

I would like to share with a new or potential owner of this slithering beauty how to house and care for a Red Tail Boa. I hope I can help you to welcome home your "shoe lace" with a fantastic and splendid beginning .I hope my experience and knowledge can help you and your jungle friend for years to come!

There are many kinds of snakes that make great pets. I am glad you considered the red tail boa. One of the biggest boa constrictors out there. The red tail is a glorious and hearty reptile. From the beginning small as a shoe lace and by the end depending on it's sex could reach up to eleven feet long and will be as strong as a bull. This is a mediocre snake for a novice reptile keeper or snake fan. I would suggest this reptile for intermediate herp keepers. Just because of the size and strength this snake will obtain. I know looking at your little stringy friend it is hard to imagine, Believe me he will be big in no time going from pinkies to jumbo rats really quick.

Housing should take some considerable thought before you bring the boa home! As a little one it would be wise to make at least a forty gallon breeder tank or a custom made snake cage his first home. He will fill it fast. I recommend a hiding log or cave so the boa can hide in peace. some aspen bedding or mulch bought at a reptile store would make a great substrate. He will need a branch or two to climb. This species is arboreal (living off the ground). He is not fully against going to ground though and does like to be on the substrate a lot.So A nice soft but firm bedding will do fine.Stay a way from pine shavings though, it is poisonous to your friend. A large enough water bowl for him to soak in will be of the utmost important's. The Red Tail loves to be submerged in his bowl and will mostly just leave his nostrils above the waterline. You do not want a water bowl too big, so he has to swim just big enough to submerge. If you get these cage decorations you are on your way to a nice home for him.

Now onto the money aspect. Some people don't
