My Wife
I introduced her
To someone I had just met
"This is my wife," I said
"My wife whom I hold dear
The woman whose hand I hold
Whenever I am hurt or angry or afraid"
"This is my wife
With whom I share
The greatest joys of life
Whom I will hold
In my heart, for eternity"
The stranger only heard me say
The first few words
Smiled politely
And talked in pleasantries
Not knowing that my whole life
Is captured in the words
"My wife"

When I'm feeling sad and blue
