New Age: Thought process or religion?

by Chad Geesman

Created on: June 27, 2008

To many people try and classify everything as a religion. A religion is a gathering of people under a singular belief. New Age, is probably the opposite of a religion, the people do not gather (for the most part) and have many sets of different beliefs. New Age is also not Counter- Culture. I fully believe it is the creation of culture, as long as it is not destructive.

New Age can be described as many different beliefs. Not one person has the same set of morals or beliefs. But what can be said for New Age, is everyone has morals! And that is all that should matter! There is non of this judgment of each other, or pushing to join a religion under the threat of eternal damnation. In my opinion, New Age as a culture is more productive than the old organized religions, which is just a bunch of threats for damnation.

As the people progress in to the New Age beliefs, we find that there is less arguing and fighting over Gods, or who's morals are more correct, everyone just understands that to HAVE morals is what is important. But I fear I am straying from the path of the question.

Is New Age a religion? As I stated, no. New Age is not a religion. I do not think it should be the classification of the peoples new found freedom of beliefs. What I think New Age is, is a New Age of reasoning. A new beginning, if a slow one, for mankind as a whole. Slowly but surly, the New Age of Beliefs with push over the outdated superstitions of the past. It will push over the judgmental ism of past religions and the fear of damnation. But most importantly, if embraced, a New Age will delete the need to war and fight over Religion. But it needs to be embraced first.

This is not just a speculation from an anti-religious person. I only wish to grant everyone the freedom from judgment based on religion, as we are supposed to have in this country. I have come across many a New Age believer, and many a religious persons. Each religious person has tried to judge me, without looking at my morals first, just that I did not believe the same as them. I have NEVER met a single New Age believer that has judged anyone for their personal believes, because they all understand the need for personal morals, personal believes, that God is a PERSONAL being.

With that being said, I reiterate, New Age should not be considered a religion, but a path to new enlightenment, and a path to personal morals and beliefs.
