Poetry: Heroes

Heroes

Heroes come and go;
We need heroes in whichever way that they can come to us,
Whether they are accepted by others or not,
Our heroes save us in times of trouble,
Our heroes deliver us from dark and lonely times,

A hero does not necessarily jump off buildings,
Kill the bad guys,
Where a costume to hide their true identity,

A hero is the person that saves you when you're in trouble,

The one who holds you close whilst you cry when something bad has happened,
The one who comforts you when you feel you can no longer go on,
When the next day seems so frightening,
Even thinking about the next day, grips you with fear,

A hero removes the fear,
They help us to fight away our fears and monsters that haunt us,
Just their words can save us,
No muscles, no super human actions, no special acrobatic effects,

A hero is always there for us when we call out for them,
Sometimes we do not even need to call for them to be there,
They just are, they know what is wrong,

Where does our hero draw their strength from?
Their talent to help us with our trials and tribulations,
Who helps them when they need help and deliverance?
Do we help one another and they also perceive us as their heroes,
Where do these people come from?
Are they just normal human beings or is there truth in the comment that "Heaven must be missing an angel?"

Where do our heroes gain their knowledge and wisdom from to help us?
Or do we all have this wisdom deep within us that we just haven't tapped into?

Or do we just struggle with our own problems and can help others with their problems but our minds are too foggy to realise this?

Maybe we do, we struggle seeing other people smile and be happy,
But how did they get there is it because we were there for them to give them the strength and the courage,

Is it that we are the ones who are the rock for other people and we get so wrapped up in helping them we leave our problems at the back of the mind until it is too late?

Everyone has a hero within them; it's just finding the hero and recognising the hero that's the problem,
Heroes do not need a tragic life story or accident to make them heroes,
Although it may help,

Heroes come in all different shapes, sizes, colours and appearances,
But none the less,
A hero is a hero.
