As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our nation, we should also prepare to insure a secure future for our nation through the investments we make. In order to make investments that will help strengthen our country, we have to look at the companies were our investments are going. Just because a company is doing well in the stock markets doesn't mean that company is doing well for America. Although American owned companies are out there, investors have to do their homework on finding out about the companies. Decide what companies affect your life, the lives of your children. Buy responsibly for the best outcome of the country.
Finding companies that are either American owned or American controlled is easier than you think. Look at the things Americans love and use all the time. How many people do you know who ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles? How many Whirlpool appliances do you have in you home? Think about the names of the products you buy and use all the time. Most of us have owned at least one Texas Instruments calculator in our lives, and although the actual product may be produced overseas, the design and development is still done here. More importantly, the money is still controlled here.
Companies that make things that are considered consumable goods like food, paper products, and cleaning supplies are American owned for the most part. Research the company that makes your favorite brand of salsa or that wonderful steak sauce that you love so well. Find out about the company and see if it publicly traded. We all know where Hershey's Chocolates are made!
Another investment option that is worth considering is land. That's about as American as you can get! Real estate is almost always a good investment. Land is not becoming more plentiful and will old its value well. You never know for sure, but just think of the area in which you live. What was there twenty-five or thirty years ago? I know that around Huntsville, AL the land used to be mostly cotton fields. That same land that sold for a mere thousand or so an acre is now worth literally tens of thousands. In just ten years, many people have had huge returns on land sales because they bought what was available and just held on to it for a few years. The area gets a new factory or a growth in a major local industry which brings in new people. This increase in population brings an increase in demand for homes which causes an increase in demand for land. Increase in demand causes an increase in value. Basic demand and supply economics!
Remember, as you enjoy your 4th of July cookout and fireworks, the price that was paid for our freedoms we take so much for granted. Realize that to insure those freedoms are secure for future generations we have to insure the economical strength of America is intact. Keeping our investment money here, building American companies and helping maintain American jobs are the only ways to do that. Don't only buy American when you go shopping for everyday items, buy American when you go shopping for financial investments as well!
