Local Congressional Elections DO Matter to Everyone
Looking back, how was it possible that our country won World War II in the 40's..began building the interstate highway system in the 50's... completed the glorious NASA moon landing mission in the 60's...built the Alaskan pipeline in the 70's...originated the information era boom of the 80's, and was the architect of the technology-internet boom of the 90's?
And now, here we are today; spinning our wheels, mired in the mud of political deadlock. So do we blame the people for this? Uh-h.. no!. Well I guess that leaves Washingington.
What's now going on in the halls of congress is completely contrary to our Constitution's concept of government OF the people, BY the people, and FOR the people.
Maybe we should require every newly-elected legislator to MEMORIZE the Preamble before they can be sworn in, because it's obvious that the current crop of lawmakers has totally forgotten why they were elected. But sadly, most of these incumbents will return to office, as WE THE PEOPLE continue acting blindly toward the nation's best interest, seemingly everytime we vote.
It's a foregone conclusion that congress knows they'll almost all be back after November, so they're obviously not going to take any stands until they see who's the next president. Despite our desperate gasoline and food inflation situation, there'll be nothing done other than window dressing. But meanwhile, their politics of deadlock is greviously hurting our quality of life.
People are eating like peasants...less meat, more potatoes. People have stopped cable TV, movies, and eating out. Congress has their limos, private jet flights, and private Senate and House restaurants. They vote themselves pay raises. They pass legislation (ethanol subsidies) that have caused worldwide food riots. And their arrogant self-righteousness is rooted in our voting tradition...the incumbent-RE-election factor. They're literally ''sentenced'' to life in the congressional monarchy, with their own regal court (staff), and their subjects (constituents) who ''serve'' them via lifelong re-election status. 'Till death do they part.
So its no surprise... we survive, while these elitists prosper. Once again, it's WE THE PEOPLE who constantly vote toward favoring whichever candidate is the best-looking, or the ''funniest'', or who has good hair; or the one who can best con the voters with exorbitant promises (job creation). How would craggy, homely, honest Abe Lincoln do if he were
