Fantasy sports growing popularity

There is something about Fantasy Football that is addicting. I have been playing Fantasy sports for near fifteen years now and every year I enjoy it as much as I did the first year, whether I win or lose. The time I put into making my draft sheets, studying players, studying teams and even the players schedules, it is almost scary. Then as the season unfolds I will spend hours every week studying stats, trying to figure out what players are picking up and which ones are dropping the ball. Knowing when to trade a star or when to trade for a Star who has been slumping. The right you have to talk trash if your team is winning and the pain of listening to the trash when you lose. For all of those ex-athletes and athlete wannabees, this is the way they can compete against friends or even strangers in their favorite sports.

Some people will join free leagues on-line at Yahoo.com, ESPN.com or CBS.com among many others. Many will pay for teams with chances of winning prizes. My brothers and I pay money into a pot use a portion of it to purchase a league in ESPN so we do not have the hastle of having to keep track of the scoring. Most companies will have fantasy games going. It is a great way to take your head out of the worries of the world we live in and enjoy the fun of the fantasy world.

One thing that really makes Fantasy sports great is that nobody ever knows how a season will unfold. Players get hurt or have slumps. Coaches bench players. Players are suspended. I have seen people who did not know much about the sport actually do well in a season strictly out of luck. I have a brother who seems to have the golden touch in fantasy football. He is always prepared and studied up well for the drafts but what really gives him the advantage is he is a good salesman. This helps him when he works on trades. I have seen him many times make a trade with someone when I had offered a better trade for the same player, yet somehow he gets them to agree for less. In four straight years of the same league with my brothers, this was the first year he did not win. Woohooo!

the fact is, Fantasy Sports is the next best thing outside of playing the sports. Every year more people try it and more people learn how fun it can be. Every year there are more and more people playing, creating more and more leagues. The result is that each year more money is gambled on it. The craziest thing is that it is still a long way from reaching its peak.

Sadly to say, my team this year ended up in last place. With six weeks left in the regular season it was already a lost cause and I began trading players for next years picks. The good news is next year I have four second round picks and the "Cannibalistic Snowmen" will start of with a lot of top players.
