The role of religion in foreign policy

by Marie Devine

The role of religion in foreign policy is the power world leaders fear to use. Religion has distorted belief in God because they have so many divisions. The many divisions of religion even within the major headings of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism, create a perception of confusion. There is one God; He does not confuse. It is the failure to follow the word of God sent to the various prophets that prevents people from seeing a common message that can solve world problems.

Foreign policy is our means of trying to solve problems in one nation in a way that will be beneficial or at least acceptable to other nations. It is not limited to economic, political, or military, but includes social and ideological considerations. Religion is God's wisdom and guidance. It is not the individual "churches" and their various ways of worship. Over 2000 world leaders acknowledge God. Most people believe in God. There is a foundation of desire for solutions and an acknowledgement that God, if He were real, could solve our problems.

Most wars have a religious element at the root of the conflict. The Muslims verses Israel and the United States and Western style cultures are involved in conflicts throughout Africa, the Middle East, Afghanistan, Philippines, Russia, Europe, etc. If we would allow religion in the foreign policy, we would only be lifting up the word of God for correction in our societies. The primary message of the Qur'an is to follow the whole Bible. Qur'an, Ahmad Numbers 5:68, 69, 42:14-16. That is what Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word out of the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4 This is a message for unity.

Bring God into the Afghanistan region and they would stop being the major source of opium. Lift the word of God into foreign policy in the United States and we would restrict immoral, immodest, sexually or violence oriented movies, and various media. That would ease the tension between the more moral Muslims.

In all holy books God directs us not to go after the riches, pride and vanity of the world and to live a godly life. He advises us not to seek superiority over others, but to love God and our neighbors and to forgive those who hate us. Major foreign policy issues in our world at this time include the energy crisis, global warming, pollution of air, land, water, and food, food crisis, immigration, disease, etc. These are all caused by leaving God out of our decision-making.

God's goal for life is a retirement lifestyle in a garden paradise that we can create here and now. We chose to exalt ourselves to become smarter, more sophisticated, and seek after luxury. What we have is bondage to a lifestyle and world problems that have us on the verge of destruction. The energy, global warming, pollution and health problems have no solution without God. We are at a dead end. Manufacturing millions of new cars and parts for a new style automobile and transporting them would pollute us to death or bring us into war over resources. We would continue the lifestyle that is destroying us.

If we allow the word of God to have a role in foreign policy, the solution to all the world problems is found in finding the abundant life in a garden paradise that we can create. Instead of planting trees with only beauty, plant trees with food on them. Choose flowering plants that produce food. Choose pets that give milk or eggs. The retirement lifestyle in a garden paradise is stress free, healthy, full of beauty, true freedom and independence, and equality and it adds no sorrow to it. It is a project and life to gather your families together to work and laugh together. This is a sustainable development available to all nations. It is the way for peace and healing our planet and our hearts.

It is easy to get from where we are to where we want to be. Begin with prayer. Inform your media, government leaders, presidential candidates, religious leaders, blogs, and friends that this is the solution God has for us and this is your choice. God said He would save us and He will if we will let Him. In the kingdom of God He will have a role in foreign policy. We need to show Him and others we need and want His wisdom now.
