Delivery Day Anxiety!
When the big day arrives and our precious bundle of joy is born, we are excited, at times overwhelmed and terrified of going through the delivery. It is funny that no matter how many times a woman goes through labour, whether it is her first pregnancy or her 10th, it is still a terrifying thought how the baby will come out. Will it be as painful as the last or worse? Do I take the epidural or not? Will this baby be bigger than my first baby? How can I push out a baby of that size? I think that mommies go through a lot of thinking throughout their pregnancies and sometimes get too worried about things that will work themselves out. I know that it is hard not to worry about all kinds of things when you are pregnant, but worrying can only get you stressed and it is not good for your baby.
Will it be painful? Do I take the epidural?
One day I was at my OBGYN and I was terrified of having my second child because of the pain factor. She advised me on a few things. Yes, it will be painful unless I take the epidural and that will obviously take away from the pain. Some woman have very high pain tolerance levels, many do not. You obviously have a choice before you are too far along in labour to make a choice if you would like pain medication or not. Every pregnancy is different and every labour is different. Just go with the flow. You will know if you want to take the medication or not when you are in labour...believe me!
Will this baby be bigger than my first baby was? How can I push out a baby of that size?
Most would say that whatever size your last baby was, this one would be a bit heavier in weight. Your body has been getting ready for this glorious day for approximately nine months. That means not only have you been stretching in your belly, boobs and backside, but you have also been stretching in your pelvic area. Sometimes you may notice in the last trimester, the feeling of fullness or stretching cramps in the pelvic area. This is too get your body ready for delivery. Women do tear during delivery down there sometimes, although, that is because the baby may come out quick because of the way that we push. When the nurse and doctor say stop pushingthen stop pushing! I know that it is hard not too but it will minimize the amount of stitches you may need.
After a few months of not wanting to go through the delivery part again, most woman do forget the pain that they went through and go on to get pregnant again. Enjoy the whole process and get many photos of that day. You will want to look back on that day with tears of joy as your precious bundle came in to this world.
