Setting aside other foreign policy issues a president has to deal with, such as, Immigration issues with Mexico, troubles in Dakfur, or Zimbabwe, China and Taiwan, Korea and Japan. I would like to speak of the dramatic differences between the two , only using the backdrop of the most prevalent issues under discussion at present; Iraqi, and the, So called "War on Terror." With those only in mind, I will address potential dramatic differences between Obama and McCain's possible Foreign policies.
No doubt, one significant dramatic difference will be how the world interprets, whatever policy either implements. Style of speech, actual words chosen to explain policy positions, will reflect two very different generations. A stark contrast between the two exists even now. Here is an example of that contrast.
From McCain's official web site:
"..I do not want to keep our troops in Iraq a minute longer than necessary to secure our interests there."
Take special note of: "our Interests"
From Obama's official web site I quote:
" And I will send once more a message to those yearning faces beyond our shores that says, "You matter to us. Your future is our future. And our moment is now."
Observe how Obama's use of " You" and " Your" is dramaticaly different then McCains use of "Our troops"; "our interests"
Obama will bring a new foundation on which the world will judge his words and actions on. His ability to communicate in a more modern and younger view could be an advantage. He looks ready to make decisions from a more philanthropic position. A more liberal approach, that will redefine the morality behind foreign policy, to garner a more favorable view on policies other wise viewed as hypocritical by the world.
He speaks of change in view point, of the very foundation on which foreign policy should be based on; the ethical use of United States power, both economic and military. A more open and morality based one. One less hypocritical and truly reflects what this nation should stand for.
One dramatic difference you can bet your bottom dollar on involves Israel. The Republican Party, which McCain is a part of, refuses to engage in any rhetoric that criticizes Israel for any thing. Think I am wrong? Just look at what Jimmy Carter has had to endure recently.
The lambasting and attempted undermining of his attempts to find a solution to the Israeli- Palestine problem is well documented. His outspoken and valid observations of Israel faults and abuses of Palestinians were likening
