I have to say that the late, great Gregory Peck was an actor who had it all. He was, indeed, my favorite male actor.
As Lewt McCanles in Duel in the Sun, I longed to be Jennifer Jones when they did that hot scene when he came to her bedroom. That love scene would put modern day sex scenes to shame and they just pulled it off to a tee. All through the movie, you could just feel the heat between them. I was devastated for days when they crawled up in the mountains and shot each other in cold blood but died in each others' arms. Maybe, that is why my life turned out so complicated. Who knows? I was only ten when I saw the movie and it DID leave me wondering.
He managed to pull off two roles in "Cape Fear" - the original and the remake. I don't know which was the scariest - Robert Mitchum or Robert de Niro - but, it gaves me the chills.
There were others - The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, Moby Dick, The Big Country are some that stand out in my mind but, his role as Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird" won character in a movie of all time not too long ago and I have to agree. I related to the small town where they lived for we lived in one akin to it. I think every small town has a Boo Radley and ours was Chester the Molester who live way down in the woods. Of course, that was just our parents' way of telling us to stay out of the woods.
Gregory died June 12, 2003 but, I wish he were young again and could come a'knockin' at my door. I mean no disrespect by that - I would just love to have dinner with him.
Natalie Wood was another favorite. From the time she starred in "Miracle on 34th St." I thought she was "it". Then, oh my goodness! She starred with James Dean in "Rebel". What a pair! I absolutely just loved her and she was so beautiful. Then, along came "Splendor in the Grass" - one of my all time favorite movies - just because of her. I say she gave it her best shot in that.
Susan Hayward was so dynamic and gorgeous. Her role in "I want to live" was acting by a woman I vote 'best of all time'. In "Valley of the Dolls" they tended to redicule her by Pattie Duke pulling her wig off but I guess Susan had read the script and knew that it entailed that but, I didn't like it one bit. But, I really don't recall them asking for my opinion. lol
Andy Garcia is another one that just turns me inside out. I personally am in love with the man - especially after seeing "When a Man Loves a Woman".
There are others as I have lived in a dream world three parts of my life but I'm sure they won't be insulted if I don't mention them. lol
Will you Keanu, Will, Owen, Adam, Jimmy, Matthew?
