Hot Springs, Arkansas, may be best known as the boyhood home of former president Bill Clinton, but this charming southern town has so much to offer, it will soon be branded as a premiere family vacation destination. Nestled in the Ouachita Mountains, and practically surrounded by three crystal water lakes, Hot Springs boasts a multitude of recreational activities in one area. In Hot Springs, every activity your family enjoys is close at hand.
There are plenty of opportunities for sightseeing in the Hot Springs area. The town itself features restored homes and businesses with Victorian architecture. A walk down Central Avenue through the historic downtown is a showcase of turn of the century charm. Take a stroll through Garvan Woodland Gardens, a 210 acre botanical garden, for breathtaking botanical landscapes. A scenic hike along one of the many nature trails showcases the natural beauty of the region, as well as the geologic wonders of the thermal springs that abound in the area.
The ultimate in family fun can be had at Magic Springs Theme Park. There are roller coasters and thrill rides, kiddie rides and games. And admission includes Crystal Falls Water Park with tube slides, speed slides, wading pool, and a wave pool. Magic Springs is also home to the Timberland Amphitheater, which hosts 12 concerts each summer (free with admission that day).
Hot Springs offers shopping galore from souvenir shops and quaint boutiques to upscale art galleries and antique shops. The Temperance Hill Outlet Mall has over 25 discount shops, while the Hot Springs Mall features over 70 stores including Dillard's, Sears, American Eagle, and Bath and Body Works. A visit to the Mid America Science Museum provides hands-on learning activities and interactive exhibits for kids and adults alike. Hot Springs is home to 7 golf courses, numerous riding stables, and world class bass and trout fishing. There's even horse racing at the Oaklawn Jockey Park, near the downtown area.
Lodging accommodations in Hot Springs are as varied as they are plentiful. Choose from a national chain hotel, a cozy bed and breakfast inn, or one of the historic downtown hotels. Nature lovers can choose from a cabin in the woods, RV Park, or houseboat rental. There are also lakeside luxury resorts and private condo rentals. Whatever your taste or budget desires is available. The numerous restaurants in the area range from fine dining to family dining, downtown cafes to fast food. There are plenty of steakhouses, seafood restaurants, pizza parlors, international cuisine, even a dinner cruise on the lake.
Hot Springs definitely has it all. Whether you're seeking an outdoor adventure, amusement park fun for the family, or a peaceful nature excursion, children and adults of all ages will find what their hearts desire in Hot Springs.
