"My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind." -Albert Einstein
Many different theories exist on this matter. You can group religious teachings broadly into two categories, linear and cyclic. Linear religions teach that a person is born, lives, dies and then travels to a spirit world to exist for eternity as something forever unchanging. Christianity, Islam, Judaism and
Parsees are linear. Cyclic religions teach that a person is born, lives, dies and then is born again into this world in one form or another. Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism are cyclic. Some people treat science as a religion, only believing the perceptual illusion of the sense organs.
All of these theories were not concieved out of fear but of a common desire for truth and understanding. I believe that we transcend our illusions in death and find supreme peace. Further, I believe desire releases its power over us, this includes the desire to live and the desire for truth. But i could be wrong, guess i'll just have to wait till I get there. :)
