It was a "fairy tale wedding" from the proposal. My husband to be decided that since I wanted a simple traditional Italian wedding, that we were going to do things right, from the beginning. We attended family dinner, the way we have every Sunday, and while I was helping my mother and sister cook, he pulled my father aside. He showed my father the very simple but elegant engagement ring. A .5 carat princess cut diamond on a simple platinum band. My father gave his blessing, and during our coffee and cannoli , he popped the question.
We decided to get married at the local cathedral. My family attends church there every Sunday and we know the priest very well, he occasionally stops in for Sunday dinner after church. We decided a simple white aisle and white taffeta bows on the pews. Nothing to extreme, I didn't need extremes to proclaim my love .
The reception was to take place at the local Italian restaurant owned by my father's friend. The decorations were elegant and extreme, but in a classy sophisticated kind of way. There was silver glitter sprinkled all across the dance floor, and white and silver bows on every chair. Each plate had a silver border, and each napkin holder was sterling silver. The flowers in the center pieces were beautiful short stem white roses, with baby's breath for an added touch. Our names were writing upon the wall in silver script print on a white backdrop. Each and every table had a white satin table cloth, and silver doilies.
We had a beautiful wedding cake, which my grandmother made herself. It was a three tired white cake. It had butter cream frosting and silver beads along the base. Not only did it look beautiful, but it was so delectable. We had the traditional bride and groom on top.
My wedding gown was breath taking. It was a Queen Anne wedding dress, with a cathedral length detachable train. It had long lacy sleeves, with pearl and sequins on it. The bodice was satin, with pearl and sequin appliqus. The back had an oval opening that was lined in pearls. The skirt was also satin with appliqus, and had a see through slit that was embellished with pearls, and sequins.
My bridesmaids wore simple dresses. They were cap sleeved, floor length black dresses. My bouquet was eight white roses bound together by a satin tie with pearl appliqus to match my dress. My veil was attached to a silver tiara, and hung past the end of the bodice of my dress.
My family really appreciated that we did a simple and elegant wedding, so they all could be a part of it. I thought it was the perfect fairy tale wedding, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Yes, it would be amazing to be married in Hawaii, but with a wedding party, and quest list that included 450 people, it would have cost too much. Everyone that attended our wedding was important to us, so I wasn't ready to cut the list short. People that get married far away don't really get that a wedding is about showing your love to your friends and family. I was so blessed to be able to do that, and who knows maybe we'll head to Hawaii to renew our vows.
