Tears of a forlorn giant who grieved for a lost love, thus the myth says about the origin of the Hundred Islands. Yet, no tears are shed as you look from afar at the islands proudly sprouting at the gleaming waters of the sea. With 123 islands scattered amidst the clear cerulean waters, you cannot help but marvel at one of natures's best creations.

Located at the heart of Alaminos City, Pangasinan in the Philippines, is just a four-hour trip from manila,the capital of the Philippines.

Aside from the panoramic view and postcard-worthy scenery, the Hundred Islands promises an adventure far more exciting and thrilling that the mind could imagine.

From Lucap Wharf, take a motorboat ride and go island hopping and explore the wonders that each island has to offer. Inclusive of island tours, rental rates (depending on boat size) range from $15-$20 for day tours and $30-$40 dollars for overnight tours.

Stop by Quezon Island and enjoy Alaminos' own version of white sand beaches. Have fun riding the banana boat and the jet ski. Kayak around the island and see the rock formations finely sculptured by nature. Be amazed at the coral reefs and the clams with shells extending up to a meter, as you snorkel in the Coral Garden and Giant Clam Garden, just a few meters away from the island.

For the daring and the bold, try parasailing and hang 600 feet above sea level. If flying is not your thing, go spelunking and see the hidden wonders of the caves or cross one island to the other using ropes through the Tyrolean traverse.

Be part of the phenomenon and pay a visit to the Big Brother House (Philippines version of Big Brother US) at the Governor's Island at $200 dollars per day. Hike to the view deck and enjoy the breathtaking scenery overlooking nearby islands.

For parents wary of leaving their kids alone, the aptly named Childrens's Island is the place to visit. Shallow waters surrounding the island create nature's own kiddie pool where kids could literally walk to the island across.

Ferry back to the island and try the sumptuous meals served at the D' Island Grille and cap the day off with a goodnight's rest at one of the luxurious rooms at the Vista de las Resort Hotel ($40-$45 per room)

Indeed, a trip to the islands is a welcome respite from the frenzied atmosphere of the urbanity and leaves one with a sense of fulfillment- that of witnesseng nature's grandeur acompanied by the efforts of the people protecting it's beauty.

The Hundred Islands weaves its own magic that gives visitors an exciting mix of experiences that is truly worth remembering.
