Tips for buying an LCD TV

Buying a new LCD TV is one of those big purchases, similar to a new car but a bit less pricey. It's the type of item you may think about buying for some time before you actually do so, and it can be a relatively expensive investment. When you are ready to take the plunge, then you want to be confident with the choice that you make.

Here are some basic tips for purchasing an LCD TV.

Get informed!
We as consumers now more than ever have readily available information at our finger tips when making purchasing decisions. As a first step when shopping for an LCD TV, go online and run some searches on these televisions. You will want to get up to speed on what an LCD TV is, how it differs from other options such as plasma TVs, and some key benefits to having one. You want to at the very least make sure that your needs and expectations will be met by an LCD TV. At this stage, you may want to first keep your information gathering at a rather high level so as not to get overwhelmed. Another consideration at this stage is the price range and size range, again ballpark figures, for these TVs to make sure you can afford one and that there is a size that will work for the space you want to place the TV. Once you are convinced LCD is for you, then it's time to find out more.

Get more informed!
At this stage, you may want to go to a store that sells a wide range of LCD TVs. Because a television has visual and audio components, it is wise to actually see some of the product options to get a better feel for what works. If possible, go to a store that offers a specialty high-end audiovisual department so that you can get additional information from the trained specialists in this area. One option is Best Buy's Magnolia Home Theater, which offers a highly trained staff, not working on commission and willing to answer your basic or more complex questions about LCD TVs and other components you may want to consider integrating with your TV. As you look at the various models of TVs, and with varying features, be sure to take notes. Do not hesitate to ask the sales person lots of questions. The more you can find out, the easier it will become to make your decision.

Validate
Once you start narrowing down your choices, it is smart to go back online to check consumer reports or customer feedback on specific products you are honing in on. You can also run price comparisons online to further refine your list of preferred TVs. Be sure to take things like warranty and setup into consideration. If you are going to invest this much in a TV, you want to make sure that you have good coverage if something should happen to it early into your ownership of it.

Double check
Once you are ready to make your decision, be sure to double check. Is the size the correct one for the room, or will it possibly overpower a room? Are all of your preferences for various audio and visual options going to be met? Are you comfortable with the look and feel of the TV, and does the price make sense to you? Do you feel confident in the choices you have narrowed it down to, and are you prepared to invest at this time?

Buy your LCD
Once you have gone through these steps, you should be ready to buy an LCD, or perhaps hold off until a later date. While this process may seem somewhat tedious, you will probably not want to make this kind of purchase on an impulse. Once you are ready to buy the TV, you will want to coordinate with your cable or digital TV provider to make sure that you are set up to receive HDTV. And, you will also want to make sure you have the perfect chair to kick back in and relax when enjoying your new LCD TV.

Good luck!
