Organizing a 4th of July hot dog eating contest

Expect vomit and prepare accordingly. Never under any circumstances should you hold the contest indoors. Rapidly eating enormous amount of cow, pig, and turkey parts may lead to chain-reaction vomiting. A tarp or large plastic covering in the eating area and on nearby surfaces makes cleanup a breeze. A hose easily removes puke from outdoor surfaces, participants, or spectators.

7) Timing is everything. Morning contests lead to lower turnout. Afternoon contests lead to excessive heat. Evening contests lessens fireworks enjoyment. If you can guarantee a good turnout, late morning or early afternoon work best. Excessive heat may lead to gastric distress and further suffering for bloated bellies. If a late afternoon contest time is necessary, provide cooling apparatus such as misters, sprinklers, swimming pools, or large buckets of ice.

8) Provide a designated driver. Friends don't let friends eat 32 hotdogs and drive. Make sure all participants have appropriately recovered from stuffing themselves before sending them on their way. Vomiting sometimes occurs hours after the contest has ended. Making this a part of the aforementioned waiver warns the contestant and absolves your responsibility for someone else's poor choices.

9) Promote! Promote! Promote! Hotdog eating contests can be a fun way to promote your business. Renting a spot at the fair or the parade allows everyone in town to hear your name repeatedly. Promotional t-shirts for the contestants, balloons for the kids, and napkins for the vomit cleaners provide cheap advertising. I would strongly encourage anyone promoting his or her business in this manner to hire a professional caterer to handle the details.
