Poetry: Nature

by Yolonda Milton

Created on: June 24, 2008

Caressed by the calmness of nature,
Shade hugging my scarred heart,
Wind kissing both cheeks.
Baby butterfly lands on my toe to keep me company.

Here I sit envious

Of a tree,
Of all things.
A tree.

Once a seed,
Planted with a forgotten purpose.
The art of God.

Alone in a park.
Crowded in a forest.
Standing still no matter the tests of Mother Nature.
No matter the cruelty of man.

Filled with mixed emotion no one notices it has.
But it's patient.

Growing in to itself,
It's patient.

As the seasons change,
It's patient.

As it's fruits are picked,
It's patient.

As the squirrels flirt around it,
It's patient.

As it's captured in the photos of the next generations,
It's patient.

As the birds build their nests,
It's patient.

Even as the dogs take a leak,
It's patient.

Even as we carve hearts that eventually, end up broken,
It's patient.

Nature does not hurry
It waits patiently for the day,
Someone comes along and recognize its so much more,
Filled with so much more.

It's history.
It's present.
It's Future.

I envy nature's patience.
