How to raise a Pit Bull

front of him, then telling him to wait and if he sits without moving around say "ok" and release him. He will learn he must wait until you say its ok to eat and you will avoid a large dog shoving you over for his meal. When the dog is just a few months old he'll be ready to learn to walk on a leash.

Every pup goes through a biting phase. Don't be worried if it takes a few months for your pup to outgrow this phase, just use a firm "NO" and redirect the pup to a toy. Avoid swinging your arms and hands about as it only encourages the pup to bite at them.

Plenty of exercise is a must, especially for a large active breed like a pitbull. Toys to chew with different textures, noises or movements and time to run around, be walked and play with other dogs all will greatly benefit your dog. A tired dog is a happy dog, as the saying goes.

Just starting with these basics will gear any dog up for being a good companion. Some things to avoid are rough play, playing tug-o-war, hitting your dog, and definatly avoid praising any aggressive behavior at all. A firm voice and proper redirection will work better than any aggression towards your dog. Be sure to give plenty of praise for good behavior. A pitbull can be a loyal loving pet if raised properly.
