Raising a pitbull is basically the same as raising any other breed of dog, but may require a little more work due to being a stubborn breed. In order to raise any pup right you need to first of all socialize the pup so that he will not grow to be frightened of new situations, people or other animals. As a young pup he should be introduced to many people including older kids. As soon as his shots are given he can interact with other dogs and go to different places such as parks. Lots of love and attention are a must. It also helps to get him used to sounds such as vaccumm cleaners and such so that new sounds don't frighten him. Introducing him to a collar and leash now will avoid a big struggle when he's older. All there is to introducing his collar is to put on a collar, though he may scratch at it, you can distract him with a toy and eventually he'll forget about it. After he is used to his collar attach a leash and let him drag it around, he'll eventually forget about it after playing with it for awhile.
Housebreaking for any dog takes some time, but use of a kennel is strongly recommended. Starting from the day you bring the pup home you should put the pup in the kennel to sleep at night and when you can't watch him in the house. He will not sleep through the night for awhile, needing to be let out to potty every few hours, but it will end. However leaving a dog in a kennel for a prolonged period of time is cruel. A soft pillow or blanket to lay on and plenty of toys to chew are a must for any kenneled dog. If you will not be able to let him out at least every 4 hours for an adult dog, then you need to find someone to let him out or he needs to be kept out side with a shelter until you return home.
Obediance training is a must for any breed of dog, especially a strong large breed such as a pit bull. Begining with the basics as soon as the pup comes home is a must. Teaching him to come when called by just calling his name and patting your leg is the first step. At a young age pups can learn this and begin learning to sit. A treat held above the head, "Hooch, sit" and then pushing down on the rear works very well. In order to establish a dominant position and to make things easier when the dog is older, you can begin having the pup sit and wait as his bowl of food or water is set down a little ways in front of him. Teaching the "wait" command doesn't take more than first teaching him to sit, then holding on to his collar while setting the bowl a few feet in
