WORDS AND THE RIVER
The river moves
in shades of gray and green
as we sit together, talking quietly
about life and death and where
our paths have taken us and
about the power
of words. We are
connected
through time and space
by words committed to paper
a lifetime ago,
reunited on
this drizzling summer day
by words entered on a keyboard
yesterday,
speaking now in hushed tones
about words that define
your existence
tomorrow.
I watch as gray clouds
give up their burden of tears
to become part of the river,
wishing I was the sort of wordsmith
who could pen an incantation
to give you hope.

Because he fed me a line,
Words upon words,
Mixed with rose colored lies.
Words of deception,
Flowed
