Senseless Missions

Galaxies are colliding, someone in an ivory tower discovered the other day;
Meanwhile DNA from a soda-pop can, gave him away and at last he got locked up with a chance for early parole.
Comparative analysis of obesity rates in the countries of the West has been done; the mismatch between high-school scores and college drop-out have yet to be established.

With all the facts rolling in and piling up, who can make sense of it all?

A color postcard from Mars: everyone's supposed to be in raving awe;
A black-and-white snapshot of homeless in the midst of our shivering and frozen cities - fails to shock.
Drilling for million years old traces of water costs more than free dental care for 250 million US residents.
Sending simple kids from Kentucky, Georgia or Idaho to die in a faraway land,
Has turned thousands of kids into orphans, wives to widows, backyards to graveyards.

Call it national pride, listen to the rich folks tell you it was a brave and necessary sacrifice.
They'll be scheming the next crime in secluded country clubs,
Robbing oil reserves from Africa, have some charities stir hearts for the needy at Christmas,
Arrest Grover for cheating on his food stamps; make a point that that nobody will see,
Keep the good folks running from mall to mall, shopping helps shareholders, as margins grow and debt rates rise,
Live for today, twist some hands and make your getaway,
As long as they think floods will pass and riots be quelled to grease the machine.
