Poetry: Love between a mother and daughter

by Elizabeth Pierce Ritz

Created on: June 23, 2008

Love Lighted Legacy

Her mother lit the lamp for her
in year 1899
when minutes old, Naomi was told
"No daughter was ever so fine!"

Naomi lit the lamp for Ruth
in year 1928
Daughter Ruth heard the truth
"No daughter was ever so fine!"

Ruth then lit the lamp for me
in year 1955
I heard her rejoice as I heard her voice
"No daughter was ever so fine!"

Were I to shout to the heavens
and declare that Ruth is mine
The world would hear how very dear
"No Mother was ever so fine!"
