Will the current peace process in the Middle East yield lasting results?

Relations between Israel and the Arab countries are still unstable. War erupted between Israel and its Arab neighbors many times over the years. There were several reasons why there were issues between Israelis and Palestinians. The first one is security. They would attack each other. Palestinians wanted to return to their place or origin. There were issues on who would control Jerusalem. Although the peace process went on many times, it never has become stable.

Lasting peace in the Middle East will be very difficult to maintain after the U.S. and other countries leave their land. After September 11, 2001 and the terrorist attack on the U.S., the U.S. entered the Middle East in hopes of overturning the corrupt government that was already in place. The mission was to break up terrorist cells within the area and put a stable, safe government in the Middle East. There were supposedly weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East. The weapons have yet to show up. There is a suspicion that Bush wanted to get involved in the Middle East to protect Israel and to get control of oil. If you can see by the current oil cost, that must've not been the goal.

The U.S. is trying to train the soldiers in the countries so that they may take over when the U.S. leaves. The task has been very difficult, if not impossible. As far as the government goes, things are starting to get set up nicely. Once the U.S. leaves, the countries will go right back to where they were before. The U.S. is doing nothing except for babysitting for the time being.

The Middle Eastern people, for the most part, hate the United States and resent them being in their countries. It may be best to leave the Middle East and let the people of those countries work out the government for themselves. They don't like the troops anyways, so they might as well leave and see how great life is without the United States holding their hand.

The United States has done its part, by bringing the war to the Middle East, rather than having it in our own country. The U.S. troops are training the Middle Eastern troops. They can only train someone so much. The United States has taken out bad government and tried to help bring freedom to the Middle East. Now it's time for the Middle East to take care of their own people. We need to cut the apron strings with the countries that despise us and start rebuilding our own country.
