Another Summer, another transfer saga, this time its Ronaldo. After the season he's had its hardly surprising that he again has been linked with a move to pastures new.
Ronaldo has done it all at Manhesterc Utd, won the Premiership, Fa Cup, League Cup and Champions League so you can forgive him for wanting a new challenge. The reported 300,000 a week after tax must also be slightly attractive.
Real Madrid are the team that are now after him and it must be said they rarely fail to get their man. Over the years the lure of the Bernabeu and all the glitz and glamour that come with the club has proven to much for top players to turn down. Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Arjen Robben, have all left massive clubs and contracts to join the Galatico's. Even Steve Mcmanaman a Liverpool lad through and through left his boyhood heroes to head to the Spanish capital.
Manchester Utd have to realise that if the player wants to go there is little point in trying to convince him otherwise. His heart wont be in it and his mind will be elsewhere. In my opinion Ronaldo has already left. He seems head strong and determined in the same way that Ferguson is. His comments would appear to have alienated him from the clubs fans and most people at the club and the clubs fickle fans have already started slating him with emails to Sky Sports.
Whilst Manchester Utd appear to be putting up a fight, in reality the accountants at the club will be advising them to take the money and run. A reported 60 to 90 million would be to much to turn down. If that money were then to be invested wisely, Ferguson could easily mange to bring in numerous top class players.
It goes to show that whilst clubs think they are the greatest, players goals, dreams if you will, play a far more important part which i think is great for the game. Man Utd have had the tables turned on them. You hear no complaints when they take another teams best player, i.e Wayne Rooney, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Carlos Tevez, Roy Keane, Louis Saha for example. And how did they go about attracting them?. Sending autographed memorabillia and Christmas presents to potential signings kids. Slightly underhand isn't it, so forgive me but i have little if any sympathy with them when they descibe Real Madrid as being immoral.
Whilst Ronaldo would be a loss for the Premiership in general it would prove a huge challenge for Sir Alex to mount a title bid next season which i think would be a good thing for the rest of the premiership.
All in all Manchester United have been brought down to earth with a bump in that sometimes despite being the best club in Britain and this season Europe, personal satisfaction in whats a short career means more to some players than anything they can offer.
