The Magic Kingdom is a wonderful, memorable family vacation. Careful planning will not only ensure a fabulous trip but will save you hundreds of dollars as well. Disney World offers many packages that work for your budget. Purchasing a package with hotel and theme park tickets included is a wise choice. Staying on the property and using the shuttles and buses will also add convenience and time to your trip.
Booking your trip with a travel agent is another way to find great deals. However you choose to plan your trip, start early and you will get the best savings possible. Travel to Disney the first week December and the first week of January are considered low season and rates tend to be less.
A few hints below:
*Pack smart
Don't forget the basics such as sunscreen, batteries and a rain poncho. These are much cheaper to buy at home. Also pack medical items such as aspirin, band-aids and other items that are needed by your family. Anticipating these necessities ahead of time will not only relieve the stress once you are there, but save money.
*Eat breakfast in your room
There are local grocery stores near the park and you will be able to pick up a few necessary items, such as milk, cereal and breakfast bars. Eating breakfast in your room will be a lot cheaper than eating the restaurants. You can rent a fridge in the Disney resorts for about a few dollars per day, or pack your own cooler from home and keep in filled with free ice!
*Most resorts offer a refillable mug in the gift shop. The cost is approximately $8.00 but you can refill it in the food courts throughout your stay. Although you are not allowed to take food into the theme parks, you can discreetly pack snacks in your backpack for the day out. Buy only one bottle of water and keep refilling it at the water fountains throughout the park.
*Eat a light lunch
While at the park, you can snack on the fresh fruit stands in the park. This will help keep you hydrated and the cost is reasonable. If you are hoping for a meal with the characters, choose lunch instead of dinner. Because of the heat, eating a heavy meal may make you or the children nauseous.
*Dinner
You can find an all-you-can eat or a buffet restaurant. These tend to be family friendly places and can are easily found off-site in Lake Buena Vista. If having a meal at the park or hotel, split it among the children, just ask for an extra plate.
Consider these ideas and use them to match your family's needs. If your budget is tight, staying in an off-site hotel will still allow you that magical vacation. Some offer transportation to the theme parks, and have great pools for you to cool down in after a long, hot day at the park!
The experience to Walt Disney World will be one your family will remember for years to come. Prepare ahead of time and it will not have to deplete the college fund. Enjoy the trip!
