Sophie watched the road signs gradually change, now more French than English and she knew the journey would soon be over. She folded the newspaper she had been reading and closed her eyes. No matter how hard she tried she could never fall asleep like the other passengers around her. She envied this gift some people had; they could drop off to sleep within seconds of a journey commencing, whereas she spent her whole journey just trying to stay awake.
