United States of America will never learn from the history. America's foreign policy needs to be reviewed thoroughly. U.S should avoid these double standards, on one hand they support Kosovo Declaration of Independence and on other hand they oppose independence for the breakaway Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Kosovo independence was not really addressed the Serbs issue. It is done without the consent of Yugoslavia. UN charter never said Kosovo requires independence from Yugoslavia whereas it is mentioned as "territorial integrity" of Yugoslavia. Accepting Kosovo independence declaration gave Russia to play a major diplomatic and business offensive role against Georgia. Even after Kremlin oppose of Kosovo's independence; America accepted their independence declaration. Both major powers of this world still have division in various political agenda. Many EU members oppose Kosovo Independence.
America & Kosovo: US Administration accepted Kosovo declaration as "sovereign and independent state". By doing this America tried to isolate Russia and tried to make deep division in Europe and among EU members. By making this America can bring down major player like Russia in trade and foreign policy in Asian countries and the Middle East.
America & Abkhazia and South Ossetia: Georgians see Abkhazia and South Ossetia is an integral part of their country and it cannot have independence. Russia opposes Georgia's plans to join Nato which makes US to play a different role. America will win Georgians heart if it succeeds in opposing Abkhazia & Ossetia's independence, then they lock the Russians out of the oil rich areas in Georgia and claim good alternative place for oil after middle-east. . This is a strategic place for US.
Russian has their peacekeepers in the territory of South Ossetia. In February Russia declared their peacekeepers will stay in Georgia. Russia is been blamed for ethnic cleansing in Abkhazia and for trying to shoot down Georgian President Helicopter. Russia denied all these. Abkhazia and North Ossetia has a lot of Russians hence it is an important region for Russia.
Recently Nato asked Russia to withdraw their unarmed railway reserved troops from Abkhazia. Russia claims their presence in Abkhazia is not to be seen as aggression or in other negative terms.
Russia's defiance is a problem for America; current and future US administration has to deal with it. Russia's worry of Nato's expansion to its territories and their opposition of missile defense shield in former Soviet ally states is an expression of their anger and frustration against America's ignorance to address the core issues. Russia believe missile defense shield is directed towards them; one way world cannot ignore that too because if America wants to place those shield they can do it in Azerbaijan where Russia offered their assistance.
