I've lived my life...
Behind jackets,
Behind baggy pants,
And long sleeves,
Behind a masked opinion
Guarded humor,
Behind the hope
Of superficial dreams.
I've lived my life in hiding
Scared...
Of ridicule,
Biased critiques,
Shallow proposals,
Secret vendettas,
From malicious gossip leaks.
Embracing caution...
Existing just to please.
Inevitably shifting focus
To everyone else's needs.
Invisible on purpose
Shamefully, the martyr no one sees
Lies beneath the layers
Of the someone I called "me."
