Two subjects I know can start flaming arguments: Religion and politics. I will make my position clear from the off: I don't believe in God or anything connected with the Bible. I do not believe there is a spirit looking over us, nor do I think anyone is going to answer my prayers. From this you would think my argument would be to say no there should not be religion, but let us look at his a little closer.
Religion has pros and cons. I know some people who have been involved in bad things in the past and have turned to religion. They now lead good lives and don't cause harm to themselves or others. I have been told by people they are too scared not to believe, this I suppose is a normal thing to say if one has strong religious desires. One would think their God will punish them for "breaking away."
Although I am not a religious person I think churches serve their purpose. In this day and age when life can be very stressful I think going to church can be very calming for some. I also think this is a good way of meeting new people.
I think for these reasons there should be religion. Also we need answers; we are always seeking answers to difficult questions. How did we get here? Why are we here? Who is looking after us? Some of these answers are answered with the God figure. People believe he or she or it is perfect in everyway. This God has almighty power and can potentially solve anything. The catch? You have to have faith.
I turned away from it as I think having a God is far too easy an answer. I also turned away from God because there are far two many contradictions and too many negative aspects to religion. Surely then religion should be banned or stopped? Surely the world should turn against the bible; the Koran or whatever they learn religion from? Yes there are negative aspects but will they go away if we don't have religion?
There are always going to be terrorists blowing themselves dying for their saviour, and there will always be David Koresh type people. There will always be wars because of religion. There will always be leaders who say "God made me do it." There will always be people praising God when they win the lottery and there will always be people praying because their 3 children died in a house fire.
People need something to cling onto; it is because we are fallible and God is not. People lie; cheat; steal and kill. God does only good. Some people take it to another level and some people live their lives going to church; meeting people and just being
