There are only three things that the average driver should know when driving around trucks. First off all, and the most important consideration is that the truck weighs more, a lot more! This means that the driver of the truck needs more time to accelerate, more time to stop and most importantly, a greater distance to stop in. If you are caught in heavy traffic with a truck, you will see a space between him and the trafic in front of him. Leave it alone, the driver of the truck needs that space for his and your safty!
Second: The driver of the truck needs more room than you do to make a turn. Trucks will sometimes need more than one lane to accomplish a turn. That might mean they are half in the left lane before turning right, or it might mean they drive deep into an intersection, even barrowing from oncoming traffic lanes to make a turn. If they need the space, give it to them. They will only need it for a few seconds.
Third: The driver of a truck has a lot of roadway to keep track of. If the driver can not see you through a window, or a mirror, he might think the road is clear. To know whether a driver can see you in his mirrors, just look at the mirrors and see if you see the driver. When you can't see the driver, he probably can't see you either. If that happens move, get to where you can be seen, or fade back and keep clear. Again, this is for your own safety.
