"Good architecture is art," Perrone says, "There's something about it that has an effect to make you think. The people contributing to the arts community are also contributing to the desire for architecture like that." Conversely, though the architects of Seibert emphasize the artistic aspects of their work, they are not convinced architecture is viewed as it should. "Architecture is the sculptural space, not the box. The box characterizes the space, the materials and the color," Holladay says. "Artistic turns fundamental into special. Good architecture should be appreciated as good art is, but not everyone has that same mindset. We are just getting on the right track."

The "right track" leads to some promising developments in the near future, the success of which these esteemed architects agree is contingent upon some specific guidelines. Whether or not in favor of the plans for Pineapple Square, the Quay, the pedestrian highway and the myriad of others, everything must be contextualized. Density is not a negative thing, nor is growth, but proportions and street scope have to be honored when juxtaposing buildings. Parking has to be resolved, hopefully creating more pedestrian traffic and street energy. Interiors must be designed in congruency with the sculptural space of the building, not just independent decorative fixtures. Symmetry and balance of proper materials to extinguish future upkeep dilemmas are imperative. And one thing especially certain, captured so eloquently by Epstein, is this: "Coming over the bridge at night is Sarasota at its best. All you see is the romance of the lights. The city never looks sexier."
