Anatomy of a city break - Glasgow
A visit to Glasgow will never be forgotten A vibrant and continually expanding city where there is always something else to discover around the corner.
Glasgow is the largest and one of the best retail centres in the UK, outside London.
There is such a wide variety of options in this cosmopolitan city that there is most definitely something for everyone. Taking a city break or long weekend affords the traveller time to visit such landmarks as the SECC, Theatre Royal, King's Theatre, Royal Concert Hall and of course the city shopping centre and enjoy the marvels of this vibrant city. Many international artists come to perform at these renowned centres and theatres.
It seems that all musical tastes are catered for from the popular groups appearing at the SECC to more formal artists heading the bill at the Opera House. A copy of the local paper and What's on Guide is totally informative of all events available.
The pedestrianised shopping streets of Glasgow are renowned worldwide and definitely should not be missed these being the famous Sauchiehall Street, Argyll Street and Buchanan Street.
The experience of the city centres shopping brings designer clothing stores, and speciality outlets in abundance.
There is also a plethora of Indoor malls such as Buchanan Galleries, Savoy centre , Princes Square and St Enoch Centre.
There are many opportunities for alfresco dining ,they are just dependant on the Scottish weather for the level of enjoyment ! Restaurants can be found around the Italian centre, Merchant Square, Gallery of Modern Art or the Buchanan Galleries.
The Merchant city area and the West end have a wealth of bookshops and antique shops and second hand clothing stores. There is an open air market, The Barras in the East End which opens at weekends, is world renowned . Everything and anything can be found there and is an enjoyable experience even for those not actually looking to buy.
Sitting at a street caf watching the people go by affords a view of the expanse of the diversity of the people living and visiting this city. There is a large student population who are very evident within the city centre and only add to its vibrancy and vitality. The local people are always on hand to guide the tourist and are pleased to do so, the welcome from the locals is warm and friendly.
There are also tourists from many countries coming to experience the cultural variety of this city. There is no chance of getting lost in the city centre despite
