I ask myself this question every day and even though I haven't come up with a concrete answer as yet there are some things that I have come to understand about life that have made me more accepting of it.
To be able to understand the reason why you have been placed on earth you have to believe that there is a higher being that has planned all this for a reason. I do not believe that our existence is a random occurrence with no meaning or relevance whatsoever. This would trivialise our entire existence, the family relationships that we share and the complex feelings of love that we nurture towards one another. Emotions cannot just spring out of nowhere, they have to have an initial seed that was planted in us by someone who understood them and it definitely was not some cells in the oceans that made us the complex and emotional creatures that we have become.
The country you are born in, the family you are part of, the siblings and relatives who are all related to you and the parents who are responsible for your care when you are born are all there for a purpose. In fact the friends and other people who cross your paths as you journey through your life come and go for some time for a reason. This reason could be either to learn something from them or for you to teach them something by the way you are as a character. There are some people who come into your life for a brief while and leave a bitter taste by the way they behave towards you. Your response to these people will shape your character and teach you to either forgive or move on or not to associate with them as they are not going to be good for your journey in life.
Some experiences in life are traumatic and leave you ill or disabled or you might experience deaths of your near and dear ones which make life not worth living. This is when you have to put your faith in the higher being and just trust in Him. The more life tests and tries the more you accept that this journey is short lived. We are in actual fact 'aliens' who have come from another place in this vast universe and when we die we will go back where we came from. That will be the real world where life will be eternal and without physical constraints. On this earth we are vulnerable as humans and it is by looking after this physical entity that we have been given that we can try and cope as best as we can. This means eating healthily, exercising our bodies and avoiding excesses that will make our bodies ill and diseased a lot faster than they would normally.
Think of this journey as a test that you are sitting for. Try and do the best you can in every situation you end up in. Think about the right way out and take that route. If that does not work out rethink and start again. Look after those around you and be there for them to the best of your abilities. Your children are souls loaned to you to be looked after, so if you have been given this gift do your best for them. Listen to that inner voice; it gives you answers that are honest and unbiased.
Life is beautiful wherever you look; it is the way you look at it that gives it that beauty. Above all remember how temporary it all is, it could all end today or tomorrow, who knows? Why waste your life worrying about things that might not even happen. Live for today but live that day like it is your last.
