The hazards of smoking

The Grock Method: Reasons
[FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, SEE OTHER ARTICLES POSTED UNDER THIS TOPIC.]

Day 5. 1:45 pm. Another 30 minutes until my first cigarette of the day. Im holding up alright. Not great, but A-OK. 30 minutes. Let's see what I can do to keep my mind off of it. There are several things going thru my mind for "re-enforcement" today. I'm sure that most of what I'm feeling is universal - everyone in my position will have the same reactions, the same feelings

Many people enjoy smoking and will never quit, but I'm not like that. I suppose that I'm a non-smoker at heart, but poor choices at a young age put me on the wrong track. Don't get me wrong, just because I say I'm not suited to being a smoker doesn't mean that I'm immune to the addiction, I've smoked heavily for many years; full-strength cigarettes at a pack a day. Unlike previous generations, information on the health risks associated with smoking has been available to me, so I know better. Smoking kills. Yes, there are exceptions; I suppose we all hang onto that. We all know smokers who (somehow) have dodged the bullet and avoided cancer, living full lives to die quietly in their beds. But the odds are against that. For the majority of us, if lung cancer doesn't get us, emphysema will. I suppose that there aren't any good ways to die, but suffocating due to lung damage really sounds like a really horrible way to go.

And by the way, that does qualify as suicide. If you're a Christian, you're not just ruining this life, you're depriving yourself of the next one, too. Unless you like the thought of spending eternity in Hell just because you're too weak to do something about it. You should just put a gun to your head now, if that's the way it's going to be at least it will be over quicker.

* * * - Ugh, it's been a long day - * * *

Luckily, I dont have to go that route. Neither do you.

Do you know why Smoking is so bad for you? You should know, so you'll understand the mechanism. First, all of that smoke goes into your lungs and they don't like it. Smoke is made up of carbon particles, (picture little, tiny charcoal briquettes,) - burned tobacco, reduced to micron-size, which slips quite easily into every crevice and node of your lungs. The lungs are sensitive and a very finely-balanced system. When they get bombarded by smoke, they secrete mucous in an attempt to isolate the smoke particles from the sensitive tissue. That is very effective, but meant to be only temporary,
