unless you let it. To be a victim you've got to feel like whatever happened to you was out to get you so to speak. That somehow it either purposely meant to bring you harm or at least if it wasn't purposeful it was at least harmful. But you see, Ruthie showed me that this life that we live has a greater purpose even than staying alive. I believe that when we came here to live life for a while, we came for the purpose of learning things - lessons - that would somehow benefit our lives, our souls, not just for as long as we live but forever. And so, everything that comes to us while we are living on earth has a purpose to benefit us in some way, that is, teach us a lesson or make us stronger or better in some way. Even sickness. Even death. Everything that happens has a good purpose for us. And if this is true-and I really believe it is - then there is no such thing as being a victim - ever! And if everything in my life, even what we call the "bad" things, has a good purpose, then I really don't have anything to be afraid of. And I have every reason to be happy everyday that I live."

Well, I went away from the sunrise that day with a lot to think about. And it took me about a month of sunrises to really get it clear in my mind. But now I am John Gilmore, former victim. I truly believe that there is purpose in every day that I get to remain alive on this earth. I believe that evetything that I experience every day is meant to teach me something that will benefit me in some way or maybe benefit someone else too. I really don't think that Latch showing up just when he did was an accident or that it was meant to benefit just one of us. And all of the lessons are not easy, in fact most of them are not. I'm afraid I don't always understand what I'm supposed to learn from every lesson but a lot of it I do understand. And the Universe is very patient with us! It makes all the difference in the world in the way I live my life and the way I feel about myself and other people and life in general. Yes, I've got aids and yet life is wonderful. I know that sounds really strange but it is true. And whether you are sick or healthy, poor or wealthy, highly educated or not so well educated, it can be true for you too.
