Irish
Irish walked out of the hospital into the bright, Florida sun. She squinted her hazel eyes and released her shoulder length auburn hair from the ponytail she wore during the day. It had made it to the upper 60's this afternoon, so she decided to walk home from work instead of taking the bus. Now that spring was here, she enjoyed the short walk from the hospital to her home on the other side of the island. It was a short 15 to 20 minute walk that took her past high rise condominiums, country club yaght basins and into the residential neighborhoods of the small island community attached to the city of Tampa. Irish had lived on Davis Island's since she was in high school. It had that small town feel with small shops, restaurants and grocery store -yet, it was attached to the big city with all its hussle and bussle. The best of both worlds.
Today, she felt like a small town girl, waving at the store clerks as she entered the business district of the Island and went into the grocery store. She stopped in here once or twice a week, picking up what she needed to make meals or her lunches for work. But, today was special. She grabbed a bottle of red wine then a huge bouqet of spring flowers, holding them to her nose, taking in their fragrance as she stepped up to the cashier.
"Oh, what's the occasion"? Margaret asked as Irish placed her stuff on the counter.
"Jack's coming home tonight, it's our anniversary". she replied. "Iam fixing a huge Lasagna".
"Good wine choice". said Margaret as she bagged the goodies, taking care not to mess up the flowers. "Have fun".
"We will" waved Irish as she took off out the door and back onto the street, only 3 small blocks left until she was home.
She had'nt seen Jack in almost 2 weeks. He had been working on one of the cruise ships that leave out of the Port of Tampa to Mexico and Grand Cayman for most of the winter months to make some extra money. He found it was a good way to suppliment his bank account as he learned the trade of Importing and Exporting that was a family business from way back. It took him away for weeks at a time, but he always came back with great stories and gifts. He told her he was an entrepenour, a businessman and that one day, he would give her the world - after he was finished traveling it.
Some of her friends didnt trust him, but Irish fell in love with him the moment he reached out for her hand and helped her out of the Limosine he was driving - at her sisters
