Classic car reviews: 1973 Dodge Challenger

The models Dodge Challenger were mainly produced for the US and Canadian markets. The Dodge Challenger was much more a sporty car than the car of luxury. For many people and many years this was the car of the dreams. People still like the Dodge Challenger cars. Probably because they are a sign of an old era. Nowadays the car is mostly bought by car collectors and the prices vary from 6 000 $ to 15 000 $. It depends on the condition of the car. Some of the buyers prefer the color of the car. Most of them like mostly the blue Dodge Challengers.

An interesting fact is that one brand from Chrysler concern was Dodge. So in 1970 the new model of the car was named the Dodge Challenger. There were two basic versions of the car: the Challenger and the Challenger R/T, representing Road/Track. Both could be delivered as cabriolets or as hardtop coupes this depended on the wish of the customer. A 3.7 liter six-cylinder engine was mounted in the normal Challenger. The R/T was available with one of eight Dodge V8 engines. The smallest V8 had a capacity of 5.2 liters and an output of 230 hp. All models were V8 powered hardtops.
One of the main characteristics of the car , quite new for the time of producing, were the tailpipes. They ended under the doors on both sides of the car. Although all expectations the car has been sold not very well.
Regulations and restrictions of the government for safety and environment control rules made a new challenge in front of the Dodge Challenger cars.
The 1973 Dodge Challenger has a rare three-speed manual gearbox. The car was purchased in different colors and every buyer has the opportunity to buy the car in color that he wished. It was equipped with a 318 V8 engine with 4-Barrell carburetors, Rally gauges, Rally wheels, R/T Bulge hood, console, and vinyl top. During that time the Challenger was available only as a coupe and was known either as Challenger or as Challenger Rally. The cars difference was only in small details. The number of engines was limited. There was a six-cylinder with 3.7 liters and 110 hp, aV8 with 5.2 liters and 150 hp, and aV8 with 5.6 liters and 240 hp. The big news for 1973 was the introduction of the 360 cubic-inch eight-cylinder engine which appeared mid-way through the year. It produced 245 horsepower but it also increased the overall weight of the car. Sales continued to be slow and it is a pity that such a car has not been produced for a long time.
