Whether you want to visit Sarasota's award winning beaches or experience the local art and culture, you are sure to have a great time in this hidden splendor located on the Gulf of Mexico.
Interested in a little Florida history? Stop by Historic Spanish Point, a museum settled on 30 acres in Little Sarasota Bay. Experience prehistory, explore Florida's pioneer life, reflect on the early 1900's or enjoy shaded nature trails. The museum has a variety of programs and exhibits for your enjoyment.
Want a family fun adventure? Visit the Sarasota Jungle Gardens, one of the oldest continuously operating attractions in the State of Florida. The gardens feature 10 acres of lush tropical vegetation, winding jungle trails and entertaining shows daily. Don't forget to stop and feed the free roaming pink flamingos, a treat for any bird lover.
Okay, enough of the nature and history talk, let's talk about the beaches! First in line, Siesta Key; the sparkling purity of the sand between your toes, while browsing the shops and watering holes that serve tropical drinks (little umbrella included) at Siesta Key Village. If you find yourself here in the midst of summer, check out the Siesta Fiesta, an ongoing bazaar filled with booths and displays sure to leave a hole in your pocket.
Visiting Sarasota on a budget? Run over to Nokomis Beach, a family-friendly spot where you can frolic in the Gulf or observe the dolphins jump through waves. You can search for beachy souvenirs, listen to live music or just relax on the sandy key without breaking the bank.
After a day in the sun, it's time for some food and drink. Run over to the Siesta Key Oyster Bar, better known as SKOB by the locals. Located in the Village, this "Landmark on the Key" offers good music from a live blues band (the best in the city) and a Flavors from the Sea menu. If you're nice to the staff, they might even put your picture up on the wall.
For a nightcap, walk over to the Gator Club. The live band and dance floor keep you moving but if you are looking for a spot to relax and enjoy your drink, head upstairs, the laidback atmosphere allow you to lounge on velvet couches next to a roaring fireplace. When you're ready, the party never ends downstairs on the dance floor.
No matter your fancy, Sarasota is a tropical paradise that features all you need. History and culture, arts and beaches, nature and shopping. Pick your destination and dive in.
