It is a good question what is my favorite car and why. For many years I thought that the most beautiful car that I have ever seen was the car of the grandfather of one of my friends. The Cadillac Eldordo is one of these cars that would be never forgotten by its users and fans. This car inspires high status and wealth. Probably because of that reason I liked the car very much and I thought that it is symbol of richness and high status of its owner in the sociaty. It was one of the most luxurious cars in 1953 and because of this reason the Cadillac Eldorado was an exclusive dream car for many people.
Since 1909 Cadillac is thought by lots of people to be the most luxurious car. The rich people in the world loved this car very much. The car from Detroit-the Cadillac Eldorado was much more widely accessible than a Rolls-Royce or a Mercedes. There was a question at that time: Could the Cadillac be compared with a Rolls-Royce? The next question was: Could the Cadillac be compared with an expensive Mercedes-Benz? And if there was any comparison in what way could they be compared?
In 1953, according to Rolls-Royce and Mercedes (both built a small number of cars) Cadillac sold 98,612 cars, including more than 85,000 of the Eldorado type alone. In the end, the Eldorado Special Sport Convertible Coupe was sold with difficulty because of the price. The car cost $7,750 was the price of the car in America. This was a great amount of money, compared with the 'normal' Eldorado cabriolet that price was only $4,144.
Of course, General Motors has built many dream cars because the designers entertained themselves with luxurious models. But they also constantly searched for models to attract the broader public. Dream cars always had a detail that was later built into the production vehicles. For example, Harley Earl designed the Buick XP-300 dream car in 1951 with its memorable and impressive windshield. Later, the car that "was built because of the windshield" became an immense success.
In 1953, it was the most expensive model the factory offered. It was perfect to even the smallest details. The chassis of the car was three centimeters lower than that of the normal cabriolet and the top was made of white or black Orlon which could be hidden under the panels. The spoke wheels were real, not imitation. The interior was equipped very luxuriously. The seats, side panels and dashboard were covered with genuine leather and the chrome was dazzling.
The car was equipped with all the accessories the factory could provide at that time. The technical novelties were electrically driven and the car instead of the normal six-volt battery, had a 12-volt battery. The Eldorado Sport Convertible Coupe was marketed again in 1954. It cost "only" $5,738 and 2,150 were sold.
