The anticipation ate at me for days. I could think of nothing else.... whenever my mind was idle for a moment, I could picture nothing but standing at the edge of a metal winged bird and what it would be like to let go of all security and footing... what it would be like to plunge into nothingness. My brain couldn't comprehend how someone would willingly fling themselves unknowing into a blurr of very thin air, and for that matter, out of a perfectly good airplane! By the time the day arrived, my stomach was in so many knots I thought I would pass out. I was a wreck.... standing in line, preparing to board the airplane that just may carry me to my self indulgent death, I thought my heart was gonna stop beating. Somehow, as my feet climbed the short ladder to the plane, I gave way to the opportunity set before me. I willed myself to stop fearing and to start believing and embracing that which I was about to experience. I'm not sure exactly how, but I pulled it off. I let go of the fear that bound me to the gravity of earth. I let go of my inner feelings of inadequacy and doubt. I let go of myself completely and gave in to the challenge. I chose to hang my life in the balance, to give control to the universe. No words can fully describe it... a sport so tremendous, so incredible, and so anticipated. Imagine a freefall from 14,000 feet at 120mph. I have never experienced such a rush in my life.... and i'm sure there is nothing to compare it to. A complete WOW experience.....your heart racing a million beats a second, hands shaking, body trembling, mind reeling .... you step to the edge.... looking down at the tiny earth. Not a moment to think and you are falling, almost floating really. The air rushing past your body, hard to breathe in, the world has become the most amazing place as your view extends for miles. The intensity increases, the growling of the wind around you heightens, as your ears are ready to explode....all the troubles in your life melt away and your mind feels complete ecstasy.... Just as you are sure this is the most amazing feeling on earth, the shoot opens and you are jerked back into reality. Silence and awe surround you as you look down to the waters and the landscape below. Now you are sure.... absolutely posititve.... that you can do anything. Nothing can stop you, there is nothing more intense on this planet... you have accomplished the ultimate test and defied gravity. This giant earth you once let intimidate you has become a toy that could seemingly fit in the palm of your hands.... fears vanish, insecurities fall away, intimidation no longer carries a meaning for you... and life's puzzle you've desperatly tried to piece together finally makes a decipherable picture. All the things you feared have come together now and just as soon as your feet touch the earth and you are back to where you started, you are sure you want to take permanent residence in the sky... just so you can dive back to earth again. The incomparable feeling it promotes, the invincible mindset you retain.... My absolute perfect recommendation to you all for 2008...a new year to release your fear and resolve to do the unimagineable, the uncomparable feat..... SKYDIVE. There is nothing like it in this universe.
