There are as many ways to fix spaghetti as there are Italian restaurants that serve it. There is spaghetti with meat sauce, spaghetti and meat balls with separte sauce and one of my families favorite ways is a spaghetti casserole. It is easy to fix and always is a big hit at our house. There are so many different ways to fix it but this a recipe we enjoy.
SPAGHETTI CASSEROLE
1 1/2 pounds of lean ground beef or sausage or I like to use a combination of the two
3/4 cup chopped onion (I like to use red onion because it seems sweeter)
1 clove of garlic, minced
1 30 oz jar of chunky spaghetti sauce
1 14 1/2 oz can diced tomatoes with onion and garlic
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp basil
1 8 oz package of spaghetti broken, cooked, and drained
1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Brown the gound beef or sausage or combo with the onion and garlic in a large pan. Add the spaghetti sauce and the tomatoes, sugar, salt, pepper, and basil. Turn down heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring often. Fold in the cooked spaghetti and the mozzarella cheese. Pour into a greased 9 X 13 baking dish. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and bake at 325 F for 30 minutes.
A friend of mine at work used to always put black olives in his spaghetti casserole and I must admit I like them too so I usually stir in a small can of chopped black olives before I put it in the oven. This makes a good meal and serve it with some good crusty garlic cheese toast for a great meal.
