Most women were taught to drive by a man, with the old pep talk of drive like I tell you to drive, Not how I drive. Famous words by my father who taught me.

Men also seem to take more chances when they're behind the wheel than a woman, maybe its a male macho thing, but I find that men have less patience, always seems to be in a hurry to go nowhere really. I couldn't begin to guess how many thousands of times I've seen a man refuse to wait his turn at a 4 way stop sign, even run red lights when they could.

Yes, there are a lot of good male drivers out there, and Yes, there's a lot of women who need to be sitting in the passenger side of the car than driving because they're too busy talking on a cell phone or sigh seeing. But from experience in my city, women are far better drivers than men.

My theory on why women are better drivers than men is, for one, most roads were built by men, it's true some women do this kind of work, but its mostly men who labor in the hot sun and cold winter months so we can have roads and highways to drive all over the country, And since men built roads, I believe they think they own them. That gives them the right to hog the road, ride up on our bumpers and blow the horn, scaring us women half to death.

My most frighting experence with a male driver was back in 1991, when I took a cab from the Dallas/Fort Worth airport to my hotel. The driver weaved in and out of bumper to bumper traffic in this muti lane highway going about 70 miles per hour. I have to say, I was very religious by the time I got to my room, I never prayed so hard in my life.

In my 40 years of driving, I have never gotten a ticket or caused a wreck, I have however been in several fender benders, the last one was a year ago while stopped at a red light, pouring down rain, got rear ended by a young man who admitted to going too fast for the condition of the road, his car went air born and couldn't stop, knocking me under the red light which I'm thankful there was no traffic since I could have been killed or seriously injured.

So men, when teaching a female to drive, maybe you should teach them to drive like you do, instead of obeying traffic laws and practicing safety. Then you wouldn't have to ride our bumpers because we're doing the speed limit or shout obscene language or give us the dirty sign with your hand as you fly pass us.

Really Guys, I think women do make better drivers then men because, usually when a womans driving, she's got her children in the car with her, and as a mother, we're going to protect our children, We're going to drive careful and not take any chances. I really appreciate it when you stop and help me change a flat tire or jump my car off when it won't start, but I hate it when you whip in front of me and turn without using tail lights, causing me to have to slam on breaks. Please use road courtesy, share the road.
